An implementation committee overseeing the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams, as directed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, convened to assess advancements in land acquisition and resettlement efforts for locals residing in project areas.
Chaired by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani, the meeting focused on the sub-committee’s progress regarding land acquisition and resettlement for the Diamer Bhasha Dam. Ghani acknowledged the strides made by the sub-committee and expressed optimism regarding the resolution of remaining household cases in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The WAPDA chief reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to addressing legitimate concerns of affected individuals, emphasizing their sacrifices for the projects.
During the meeting, the commissioner of Diamer-Astore Division provided updates on case statuses and the grievances redressing committee’s terms of reference.
Construction activities for both the Diamer Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam are proceeding smoothly. The Diamer Bhasha Dam, aimed at storing 8.1 million acre-feet of water and generating 4,500 megawatts of hydel electricity, is expected to be completed by 2028.
